Interface for users

I'd like to know how other developers are building interfaces to allow users to search and select the records they want to edit.

We have typical data entry screens. We need to give the user the ability to search on predefined fields using multiple values for each field and to select a subset of the result dataset. They need to be able to enter multiple values, ranges, and relational values for one or more of the predefined fields.

The interface has to be simple to use. Query builders are too complex for this.

Are there any existing components that would meet our needs?

Thanks
