[Q] Import show=y parameter without a database?

Howdy.

I'm currently testing different Oracle 8 database recovery strategies. One scenario I'm taking is if I have a full export of my database and my machine blows up, can I recover the database from the full export alone? I'm attempting to make the assumption that I've forgotten the original configuration of the database to make it even harder. This probably simulates the owner of the PC dying in the resulting explosion. I guess you can't always expect the database's dba to be available ;)

Anyway, I digress.

In building a new machine to recover the database I think my job would be easier if I could analysis the original export for what tablespaces it contains. Currently the new machine has the Oracle 8 binaries installed but no database. When trying to 'show=y' the export using the Oracle import utility, it indirectly complains that no database yet exists.

So my question is: is it possible to show the contents of an Oracle export without a database and how?

Hope you can help and thanks in advance for your advice.

:)
